Information about recorder at Prairie Ridge Elementary

One exciting addition that comes in fourth grade is the introduction of a wind instrument, the recorder. All 4th graders will be playing a Yamaha YRS 20 Series - baroque style Recorder throughout their 4th and 5th grade year.

Students are encouraged to purchase their own recorder. I think you will find that your student will be highly motivated to practice and play at home. Yamaha recorders are known to be a high-quality instrument at an inexpensive price.

Recorders come in many different sizes and shapes! This year we will be using soprano recorders.

What recorder are we using?

Yamaha has combined quality and durability to bring you their 20 Series Recorders. Made of ABS resin, these lightweight recorders feature precise, uniform intonation, making them perfect for beginners. Each recorder comes with a case and neck strap.

Can I use the recorder my sibling purchased?

It is very important that we all use the same brand and model of recorder, as tuning and sound quality varies greatly between brands and models. If someone else in your family went to PRE and bought a recorder in a previous year then bring it to Mr. Row and he can look at it to make sure it will work with the other recorders are are using and look to see if it is in working order.

How much does it cost?

We are ordering our recorders from a company called Sweet Pipes and the bundle of resources will cost about $10. This price includes your recorder, a neck strap, cloth case, and the cost of shipping.

When do we need to order recorders?

Online ordering will close at midnight on January 17th.

Where do I order?

Go to https://sweetpipes.com/ click on "School recorder orders" on the top menu bar.

Select the name of our school (Prairie Ridge Elementary) and complete the order as instructed.

Please note that you'll need to choose:

which color recorder you want (quantity 1)
the color neck strap you want (quantity 1)
and don't forget the cloth bag (quantity 1)

When does it show up?

All orders will be shipped to the school at the same time, the day after the cut-off date. Your student will receive their order in music class. Easy peasey!
